Within hours of checking on my application for reasonable accommodations via email I was given the finding. Denied! Asked for the reason for the denial she could not tell me, said she was not sure but would get it for me. No biggy, I figured it was simply a worker that had been told it was denied and to call me back. I made sure to ensure that she understood I would need the reason on paper that an email would be fine, but I needed to make sure I had a paper trail. She did not seen to happy with that, but it is what it is.
The next day nothing was heard from our ada department until after 5pm. I have a sneaking suspicion that they did not know I had a company phone and all after-hours calls get directed to. After her surprise, she told me that she was probably the last person I wanted to hear from but she had been apprised of a change in my application, now it was a "no/maybe" to be allowed to bring my service dog to work with me. I asked what did that mean, she was not sure. She told me that she still needed to reach out to my supervisor to start a conversation about the application. She mentioned the head supervisor whom she though was in my chain of command but I quickly corrected her letting her know that I was not within that chain of command, my supervisor was the region head, and gave her his name.
I also informed her that I had already started a conversation with my supervisor about this and he was aware and waiting for contact with the department. Again I caught her off guard, but I am not going to allow my boss to get blindsided. So now, it is after 4 pm on a Friday, and nothing but crickets.
As for the conversation with my boss, it went well. He had 0 knowledge on service dogs so I am attempting to bring him up to speed as well as providing him with an alternate policy modification that may be easier for the department to swallow including a trial period method.
