Dougal and I have now been reunited within my new work environment! Only taking about 3 months to secure and only a few bumps along the way. For those interested in the play-by-play just check out the blogs here.
I was able to talk the administration into lifting their no-dogs policy for Dougal. The facility director was very understanding with the request. I was simply asking to be accompanied with my service dog who would be maintained in my office while I am at work. This stipulation was done as I also am called into very secure area(s) where for IT problems daily. Having Dougal in these areas, in my opinion, could change the dynamic of how these areas operate, and it could possibly be dangerous to Dougal.
To make my request more palatable I had also requested a "trial period" to make them feel a little more in charge of the decision. The director said there was no need for a trial period as if she or the upper staff saw something that broke the rules the dog would go home. She is a very no-nonsince type, I love it!
So, we have been working for about 2 weeks now and it has been fantastic! The floor I work on love to stop by to see Dougal. He has alerted to me several times, once with one of the supervisors walking by, so there is that story flying around showing that he does actually work.
We do get a lot of eyes on us when coming into the office, leaving and break time. Most of it has been very positive, but as always I have heard some negative mutterings, but that is to be expected in my opinion.
