I would like to introduce the new member of our family. Welcome Peaches! She is a Wired Haired Griffon and very smart. We have been borrowing her over the last few weeks to come visit to see how the other animals react to her and how she would react to them. The cats really do not seem phased by her presence, matter of fact they actually seemed interested when they decided to take part. Dougal was not sure what to do with the situation until about the second or third visit. Now he has found, while small, Peaches like to play and chase and he is VERY happy with the situation.
Last night was Peaches first overnight with us, away from her large litter. Needless to say, it was NOT a quiet night. Unfimular place, no brothers or sisters, and quarantined in a bathroom. Did I mention she is quite vocal? Thankfully it seems her internal clock is about 4 hours so we were able to get a decent sleep while she slept in between crying sessions. Hopefully, this will get better as she gets used to her new living arrangements.
We have several ideas of what we would like to see Peaches do later on. The wife could use a service dog, but we are also looking at bed bug detection and some fun activities on top. Going to have to see how she develops. We know she is very smart, inquisitive about everything, and isn't scared of anything. The breed is awesome with scent training and human companionship, so I really think the sky might be the limit for this pup. I hope to get some videos of her training as the Wufe will be handling most of it, to help build the bond between them, I will put those up in our "owner training" links area as I get them.
Training should start in a few weeks for the basics. I am planning on contacting a trainer friend of mine to see about some focused training, might even do a couple of board and trains for her, but that's down the road a piece.
