With the bad news of Quest deciding that our lab is an unneeded laboratory, they have decided to shutter the lab. They are doing what they can to make sure as many as possible can retain their jobs within the Quest corporation there are a lot of us who have either already lost their jobs or, like me, will be released at the end of March. Fortunately, Quest is not leaving us high and dry, they are providing fair severance and paying for built up paid time off accounts, so we have a built-in pillow to land in when that magic day arrives.

But with all that in mind, I have been going crazy filling in job applications. I think it is a big bonus for us that we live in Florida where the population is older but relies on current technologies. The first week of putting in applications I had received several hits on my resume through several of the job-finding sites. So my stress level, for job finding, has been reduced. With 2 months I think something will be found before I find myself jobless. Even if we find ourselves jobless we have a few more months of checks to insulate us.

Now, this week has been crazy. I received a request for a virtual interview from a promising company that went well, they had 3 positions they were looking to fill. I felt the interview went well, and was quickly confirmed as I had a request for a technical interview and lunch. This was literally within hours! Normally I have learned that it takes a week or so before you ever hear anything back. This, hours?!? The technical was a nightmare, but gave it my best shot. The lunch was awesome as the managers brought a couple of "possible" co-workers along to see how we would work together. By the way, I really love this idea! The 2 could have been kids of mine (age-wise) but had a great time. The conversation was mixed with my prior work, law enforcement, and my favorite subject service dogs. I was surprised when I noticed my lunch was only half eaten while everyone else had already finished.

At the end of the meeting, the director told me that he and the others needed to bump heads and talk before anything else, but if it was agreed to I would get a note from HR about the next steps. The hour drive back home was one giant de-stress exercise, but near the end of the drive, I was singing (badly) to the music on the radio. 😁

About an hour after I got home I decided to open my computer. Well damn, I had an email to do a psych exam for the company. Ecstatic isn't even close to how I felt! Did I pass that technical? It was time to break out that scotch! This is moving so fast!

I have now finished the evaluation and the other steps they asked to be able to better focus on the test. Time to wait. It would be so nice to know that the big black hole is filled.
