Some know, but most do not so let me give a synopsis of the last few months. I have worked for a medical laboratory for over 7 years, the last 3 remotely. Three years ago one of the giant lab corporations bought the company. Everything seemed to be going well until about 2 months ago when we were informed that the company would be shuttering the laboratory as of March 31st. All the on-site lab workers and support staff (with a few exceptions) were eligible for a severance package but would need to find jobs.
Needless to say, everyone has been searching high and low, including me. Almost every desk, mysteriously, popped up a laptop that the employees were filling out job applications and checking for interviews. Lucky for me I always have 2 systems, one for work and my personal system where I can do as I wish without the company's electronic eyes monitoring what I do. So, I have been doing the same these past 2 months. I have been lucky as it seems IT people, right now, are hard to find in our area. So far I have been to about 8 interviews many with follow-ups.
With the final month rolling past the stress was rising. The funny part is that there was really no need for the stress as the severance package, PTO payback, and unemployment we could sit and take a long vacation while waiting on a job to appear. Sadly I am not one of those people who can do that.
Checking my inbox yesterday I noticed an email from one of the groups that I am on their "short list" with. Glancing at it seemed only to show some more paperwork their HR needed me to either sign or fill to return until I took a harder look and noticed that the last attachment was a contingent offer! Looks like I have a job! No drop in pay and state benefits. So, yes, I am happy now. That April hole looks to have been filled and we can continue as normal and even pay off our big loan and find a second vehicle.
As for Dougal, I am not sure if he will be able to accompany me to work due to that work situation. I am keeping a wrap on the location till it is a real thing. I am just going to fight one battle at a time and the priority is to have a job so I do not have to worry about where my next meal is going to come from. As always I will blog all I can.
