I remember, early in life
Love so easy, life so carefree
As adolescence kicked in
I found those that want only to cause harm to others
I found fear and non-understanding
Then war
Fear, pain, blood, and death
Person killing person and no real reason why
Refusing to allow the stranger to ever see their family again
While that is all any of us wanted, to see our families again
Face the new reality
Nothing was going to be the same again.
My wall is tall and thick
Built brick by brick
To shield myself from harm
Now I am insulated
From the pain, from the demons
Why then are my dreams still haunted
The dead still trying to make it home?
My brothers and sisters gnawing on that round with their own name inscribed
Of what could have been with my life?
Am I on the wrong side of that impregnable wall?
Love so easy, life so carefree
As adolescence kicked in
I found those that want only to cause harm to others
I found fear and non-understanding
Then war
Fear, pain, blood, and death
Person killing person and no real reason why
Refusing to allow the stranger to ever see their family again
While that is all any of us wanted, to see our families again
Face the new reality
Nothing was going to be the same again.
My wall is tall and thick
Built brick by brick
To shield myself from harm
Now I am insulated
From the pain, from the demons
Why then are my dreams still haunted
The dead still trying to make it home?
