With a new puppy in the house, I have decided to split my normal Blog into two. One for Dougal, my service dog, and one for Peaches.
Peaches is a Wirehair Pointing Griffon, and at the time of this writing 12 weeks old. We have a friend who decided to breed his female before having her "fixed" and offered us (my wife actually) a puppy. After the brood was delivered (11 puppies) the wife and I tried to help as much as possible. Needless to say, I will not ever get into breeding! Much too much work and ankle punctures from the overly sharp puppy teeth!
During this time I spent a lot of time researching the breed as I really did not have much experience. The breed, here in the US, is very rare. They are typically used as hunting dogs (bird dogs) and have an over-the-top scenting ability, but, they are also hypoallergenic and known for their companionship. Depending on their personalities and Volhard testing I don't see why they might not be trained as a service dog...
I am not sure how (or if) we are going to train Peaches for service dog work, but there will be training. Wify could use a service dog, but we are going to wait and see. Volhard is showing us 4s and 5s across the board.
But, this Blog will be focused on her.
