BENNINGTON, Neb. —
A simple push of a button could send an alert that would save 5-year-old Memphis Keck's life.
Along with several other medical conditions, Memphis suffers from unpredictable, daily absent seizures, which is why Memphis' parents, Allyson and Trek Keck, were working so hard to get Memphis a service dog.
"It's great to have another family member to help out with Memphis' medical needs," Trek said.
KETV first met the Kecks and introduced you to Memphis' journey in Sept. 2023. Just days after our story aired, over $24 thousand dollars had been raised to help Memphis get a service dog.
"We wouldn't I mean, we wouldn't have been able to get Moose if it wasn't for Omaha," Allyson said. "Like, truly, I really don't think we could have."
Allowing the Kecks to bring home Moose, Memphis' new sidekick and full-time service dog.
"Memphis now knows more that he's [Moose] here to help me," Allyson said. "He's here for me [Memphis]."
After training for months by Doggie Does Good in California, altering to Memphis' seizures is just one of Moose's specialties.
"He started crying and Moose like, heard him, and he hopped up on here and did this, and Memphis immediately stopped crying," Allyson said.
Once Memphis is fully healed from hip surgery and Moose reaches 2 years of age, he will also help Memphis learn how to walk again.
"Knowing that Moose has the training, the counterbalance training to support him and his walking journey and his development in that space is very, very reassuring as parents," Trek said.
After only a week together, Memphis and Moose are already the best of buds, and the Kecks said providing Memphis a service dog would not have been a possibility for another five to ten years if it weren't for the Omaha community.
"Couldn't have happened without them, so they made a miracle happen," Trek said.
The Kecks said they are grateful for Doggie Does Good for their help in training Moose, and are eternally thankful to their community for changing Memphis' life.
