A disabled veteran is suing a Los Angeles hotel for allegedly discriminating against her and her service dog, ultimately making her late to an Elton John concert.
According to legal documents, obtained by The Blast, a woman named Kristen Rockwood claims she is a disabled veteran who suffers from PTSD and diabetes. Rockwood utilizes a service dog to help with the challenges resulting from her disability. Specifically, she explains the K-9 is trained to alert her when she needs to take medication and alert her to high/low blood sugar conditions. Also, her service dog is trained to block, make space, and alert her in a crowd in situations that may trigger her PTSD.

In November, the day of the highly touted Elton John concert at Dodger Stadium, Rockwood claims she was pre-booked to stay at the American Hotel Los Angeles, and upon arrival, a hotel employee allegedly demanded she produces an "ID" for her service dog. At the time, she claims the employee told her "the hotel was a private business and that they could refuse service to anyone." Rockwood claims she tried to tell the employee she did not need an "ID" for her service dog and that he was discriminating against her because of her disability.
On November 19, 2022, Kristen Rockwood attended Elton John's "Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour", and fortunately for Kristen, she can watch parts of the show she missed on Disney Plus. The documentary is called "Elton John Live: Farewell From Dodger Stadium." Nothing compares to a live concert performance, and missing an hour of Elton John's concert is a total party foul, but being able to watch the concert, again and again, is pretty awesome!

Rockwood claims she had to leave the hotel "petrified and embarrassed" to find replacement lodging at the last minute at "considerable extra expense." Unfortunately, the situation, and ordeal, allegedly made the woman miss "the first hour of the Elton John concert that she traveled to see." Kristen Rockwood claims the hotel's alleged conduct violated the "Americans with Disabilities Act," and the conduct was a substantial factor in causing her harm.
The woman claims the hotel "intentionally discriminated" against her, and denied her full and equal access to the hotel. She claims she is entitled to a minimum of $4,000, including actual damages, minimum statutory damages, as well as attorney's fees and costs. Rockwood is also seeking injunctive relief "compelling Arts Americana to cease discrimination against disabled persons and remove all accessibility policy barriers" that relate to her disability.
