Looking for a fun time with your service dog? Disney World has been one of our very best experiences with my dog in tow!
We took two of our kids for a two-day trip to Disney. Since we happen to live about 2 hours from the parks we split up our trip for a Tuesday and Thursday trip, and so glad we did that as I nor my wife could have handled a day-to-day trip.
There were some worries we did have. The amount of time Dougal would be actively working. bathroom breaks, feeding, and the like for Dougal. What would we do if we had a bad public access problem with staff or patron? So many unknowns to have to think through. Well as normal, we were overthinking!
Our trip was absolutely fabulous! It seems that the folks at Disney really put some thought into service dogs in their parks. Entering the park was a breeze, they do ask to make sure you have the dogs shot records on their website, but we were not asked for them.
Each park has well-defined doggy areas for breaks, but you are asked to pick up after them (which should be common sense). You can ask any vendor for water for your pup for free, considering the cost of water in the park, that is awesome!
All of the cast members were extra nice, even going out of their way to say hello to us, and the costumed cast members (after making sure it was ok) would interact with Dougal. Great picture moments. It really made me feel like we were actually wanted. Really a great feeling.
Doing the rides had also been thought through. Some rides your dog can come with. Those with a height requirement all come equipped with a kennel your pup can take a rest in while you enjoy the ride. While your dog is kenneled a cast member sits with them. When you finish the ride a cast member guides you to the kennel to pick up your other half.
