The American Service Dog Access Coalition is dedicated to promoting the health and well-being of all persons with disabilities, ensuring that service dogs are welcome in all public venues, and increasing the confidence of the general public in the legitimacy and value of service dogs.
We are a nonprofit, charitable coalition comprising service dog organizations, experts in legal and regulatory affairs, canine registry and credentialing members of the travel and tourism industry, dog behavior and health and welfare experts. Our vision is to open the world more fully to persons with disabilities by making airline travel with service dogs frictionless.
The Service Dog Pass credential is earned, not bought. After supplying necessary documentation, applicant teams are evaluated by an approved Service Dog Pass evaluator. Evaluations demonstrate high standards for behavior and obedience.
Who we are: The American Service Dog Access Coalition (ASDAC) is a 501(c)3 organization dedicated to reducing the burdens faced by disabled individuals when travelling by air with service dogs
The problem: Fraudulent and poorly trained service dogs are inundating airports and airplanes. Correspondingly, legitimate service dog teams are facing skepticism from airlines and the public, as well as hazards from fake and poorly trained "service dogs." ASDAC recognizes the legitimacy of a variety of sources of service dogs but also the issues and confusion caused by a lack of unified behavioral standards for true service dogs as defined by federal law.
Our approach: ASDAC prioritizes collaboration with the goal of building the broadest possible coalition of service/guide dog providers and airlines to end the use of fake and poorly trained "service dogs" while simultaneously raising service dog training standards. Unlike other attempts, ASDAC is a stand- alone not-for-profit coalition established by industry leaders with expertise in canine registry, technology, service dog training, and advocacy.
The solution: ASDAC has built an "opt-in" service dog credentialing system that streamlines air travel for service dog teams while also reducing the challenges faced by airlines when working to accommodate them. The voluntary credentialing system provides airlines with relevant information to easily identify valid, well-trained service dogs while also providing service dog teams with increased comfort and confidence to travel by plane. The work of ASDAC also incentivizes participation in the system and create a culture of compliance with the general public.
The voluntary credentialing system contains five general components outlined below:
Evaluate service dog teams to ensure they meet rigorous standards or provide automatic credentialing to teams from pre-approved providers (i.e., ADI members and other high- quality service dog providers);
Upon successful submission of all required information, the service dog team's credential is validated. Valid status and the SDP ID number can quickly be verified via a mobile app and web-based platform.

- Receive vaccination history of dog, medical letter for use of service dog, and attestation of team;
- Provide easy access to credential through a database managed and backed by ASDAC and the American Kennel Club® ("AKC");
- Re-test service dogs every two years to ensure they continue to meet credentialing standards;
- Provide a policing mechanism for teams failing to meet standards.
Upon successful submission of all required information, the service dog team's credential is validated. Valid status and the SDP ID number can quickly be verified via a mobile app and web-based platform.
