Headed out, me and Dougal, to the local Winn-Dixie to pick up some necessities. If you have read any of the blogs by me it is one of our typical stops for grabbing just a few items. Honestly, I think they are more expensive than Publix. Anyway, everything went great until I heard a little girl say "Hey mom, ANOTHER DOG!" Normally we are the only team when we visit, excluding our meeting with a woman and her lemur it is typically nice and quiet.
Dog 1: Rounding one aisle we came upon team #1. A couple with their vested ankle-biter in the cart. The gentleman was doing all he could to block sight between the dog and Dougal. Dougal had already seen and was interested but stayed on the heel. Well, the other dog noticed also and the gentleman went from blocking sight to holding onto the dog for dear life as it attempted to launch itself in our direction. My avoidance system kicked in, quick left turn with a "leave it" for Dougal, and down the aisle, we went. Not too bad, on our side, but the note was in place to avoid them.
Dog 2: Coming out of my escape aisle wouldn't you know it another dog. Again a little ankle-biter but on lead. Dougal was the one that alerted me to this. He normally goes into a sit whenever he sees another dog when he is vested. This is how we do "Greets". The puppy did not seem to notice us, and I do think Dougal was sad as they walked past. I am not sure if I should offer Kudos to her and her puppy but either the puppy was training or just simply didn't notice us with all the foot traffic. But, this interaction was very nice and was able to help me recenter.
And as you guessed at check out here comes the vested dog and owners. Little dog syndrome kicks in and it goes bonkers barking. Yea, I am in between them and the door. I think I saw an instant of panic on the guy's face as they darted down the frozen section. We paid and got the hell out of there.
